Manchester, CT - At approximately 1:42 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop involving a Lexus in the 350 block of Center Street in Manchester for alleged motor vehicle violations.

The operator, 39-year-old Samuel Lee, briefly stopped and spoke to police before allegedly fleeing towards I-84 West. Police say he almost struck a police cruiser while doing so.

Stop sticks were positioned at an on-ramp accessing I-84 West. When Lee allegedly drove over the stop sticks, the tires of the Lexus were punctured.

Police say that Lee fired several rounds from a handgun at the officers as he drove onto the highway. At least one police cruiser was struck.

Manchester police officer Kyle Busse returned fire, and Lee was struck in the hip before his vehicle came to a stop on the side of the highway.

Bodycam footage shows Busse firing at the vehicle from inside the police cruiser.

Lee surrendered to officers at the scene and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lee has six outstanding rearrest warrants from various jurisdictions, according to police. An arrest warrant has been obtained by the Hartford State’s Attorney for various felony charges, including but not limited to first-degree criminal attempt of assault.

I-84 West reopened after being closed for multiple hours.
