I watched Hero Hei’s video “Freaks are celebrating what happened to Emiru because ‘she’s rich’” and I’m nauseated. After Emiru was assaulted on stage at TwitchCon, people actually responded with mocking comments: “It wasn’t s*xual assault, it was just a hug,” and “She’s rich — stop complaining.” This isn’t just ignorance — it’s cruelty.

Mocking victims with “she’s rich” is unacceptable.
Wealth doesn’t invalidate being assaulted. Pretending it does silences all victims who succeed, work hard, and remain vulnerable.
The comment “because she’s rich” is a distraction from the real issue: someone violated her boundaries.
“It was just a hug” — defines assault down.
Whether you call it a hug or not, the act was non-consensual and frightening. Minimizing it erases victim experience and encourages repeat offenses.
Being public doesn’t make you fair game. If a fan thinks they can grab you, that means a system failed you (security, event protocols, crowd control).
Emiru admitted she felt unprotected by TwitchCon staff—even with her own security. That’s unacceptable.
Attacker & event must be held accountable, not the victim.
The urgency should be on: Who allowed this? Why did security fail? Why did the man walk away?
Instead, many comments divert attention to “why complain?” — that’s reversing the burden.
When casual cruelty is expressed (“ha, rich girl crying”) it reveals how normalized assault and harassment have become for public figures.
