I just watched Asmongold’s latest video “It’s About to Get Much Worse,” and he nailed it. The incident where Emiru was assaulted at TwitchCon isn’t just a glitch — it’s a red flag for the entire Twitch ecosystem. A fan bypassed barriers, grabbed Emiru’s face, attempted a kiss, and apparently walked away while TwitchCon staff stood idle — all in front of cameras. Twitch’s response? A statement claiming immediate action, which Emiru calls a “blatant lie.” The company says they banned the attendee forever, but the creator says the removal happened only after pressure from her management.
Security failure is systemic — This wasn't a random one-off. When event security fails at a major convention for a top creator, it signals broader structural negligence.
Spin vs reality — Twitch’s statement versus Emiru’s account: the discrepancy matters. Saying “we captured him immediately” when the creator says otherwise destroys trust.
Creator risk, not just audience risk — These conventions are where creators build careers. If creators can’t feel safe, the model collapses.
Leadership accountability — Platforms like Twitch can’t outsource safety and then pretend it’s “not our fault.” Dan Clancy and top brass must answer.
When no trust = no future — Asmongold saying “this might be the last TwitchCon” may sound dramatic — but if the main draw (creators) no longer attend, what’s the point?
Support for Emiru — She did the right thing: spoke truth, refused to accept spin, highlighted a real issue, and protected future creators by raising the alarm.
Call to action — Viewers & creators should demand: transparent incident reports, refunded unsafe events, the right to bring personal vetted security, and no more platitudes.
