Hundreds spent Monday celebrating the continued legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday with events spanning the Tri-State. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, the day after addressing a Memphis crowd. King supported a sanitation workers’ strike in Memphis after a malfunctioning compactor crushed to death two trash collectors. Workers demanded better pay and improved working conditions. Referring to the partial government shutdown, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley said King would not be happy about the current state of affairs in the U.S.
