Surah Yunus is the tenth chapter of the Holy Quran and contains one hundred and nine verses. It was revealed in Makkah during the early period of the Prophet Muhammad’s mission when he faced opposition and disbelief from the Quraysh. The Surah takes its name from the Prophet Yunus, known as Jonah in English, who is mentioned in the context of his people’s repentance and Allah’s mercy upon them. Surah Yunus beautifully emphasizes the themes of divine oneness, prophethood, revelation, and the ultimate accountability of humankind before Allah. The Surah also comforts the Prophet Muhammad, assuring him that his duty is only to convey the message and that guidance ultimately comes from Allah. It teaches patience in the face of rejection and resistance, emphasizing that truth will eventually prevail. The believers are reminded to remain steadfast and to avoid despair, for Allah never neglects the sincere efforts of His servants. The Surah concludes by affirming that everything in existence belongs to Allah, and to Him all will return.
