The Terrors of Death are Fallen upon Me

David knows that he could die anytime at the hands of his son or his one time friend. He is overwhelmed by the situation he is in. He is praying to God and he is telling God how he feels. He is in fear and anguish and he is casting all of his cares on the LORD. The times of great difficulty will come and they will be overwhelming. Sorrow and depression will arise as you feel like there is no answer and God has not responded yet. The enemies are great and they are numerous and you do not know what to do. All the more reason to go to God in prayer and continue to make a noise before Him. What you must remember is that God will not lift you out of the troubles, but that He will bring you through the troubles.
