Should A Church Help Members Who Are In Need

The Word of God tells us while we have opportunity let us do good. It goes on to say Especially to those who are of the household of faith. I know you can decide how you interpret a passage in the Bible, but I always like to take this as an challenge to help people in the church. What better way could you do but helping brother's and sister's in your own church body who are in need. I know there will always be people who don't manage there money well or people who spend money on things they should not do. This is why the Bible says the poor will always be with you we will never wipe out poverty. But if we see church children without coats and gloves do we just turn our heads and look the other way? If a family has been faithful to the church for 5 or 10 years are more and the father gets sick and can't work do we say go to the government we will pray for you. Sometimes we need to do more than just pray we need to step up and help and not put everything on God or the government to help them. They are part of the church body if you break your foot your whole body will suffer. My answer after 50 years of preaching and many years as a pastor is yes the church needs to set up a fund to help people in the household of faith.
