Best bait to lure Rattus rattus, the roof rat

Stephen M. Vantassel, host of the Wildlife Control Consultant podcast, discusses research by Kallista N.Wales, Ryan Meinerz, and Roger A. Baldwin published in an article entitled, Assessing the attractiveness of three baits for roof rats in California citrus orchards which was published in the journal Agronomy in 2021 volume 11 2417. Doi https://doi.org/10.3390/agronomy11122417 The research tested the ability of three baits to attract black rats (Rattus rattus) into tracking stations. The baits were peanut butter, Mouse Attractant soft bait, and NoTox wax block. Pest control and wildlife control operators can benefit from this research for their own work in managing roof rat pests. The study used statistics to determine which bait or no bait attracted rats.
