WHO WERE THE ANCIENT CELTIC DRUIDS?:
The CELTS (pronounced “Kelts”)(“Celtic” pronounced: “KELL-TICK”-of or related to the Celts) were an ancient people who worshipped SAMHAIN (pronounced “SAH-WEEN”), the Day of the “Sun God” who was the “God of the Dead”, centuries before the birth of Christ in what is today France, Germany, Scotland and Ireland. Their High Priests were called DRUIDS, an ancient Celtic word which roughly meant “oak men”, because they also worshipped powerful spirits who were believed to dwell in oak trees.
Druid Practices:
Included human sacrifices to Samhain the God of the Dead/Sun, particularly children and virgins. This God of the Dead would “die” Oct. 31st and be re-born December 21st (hence paganized “Christmas” date of Dec.25), “Wicker Man” was a particularly heinous Druid practice wherein a gigantic hollow effigy of a man is constructed of wicker (think: gigantic wicker Trojan Horse in the shape of a man) human (men, women and children) sacrifices were sealed alive in the wicker “man” and the “Wicker Man” was set ablaze and became a giant bon-fire(orig. “bone-fire”)/human crematorium in honor of their God of the Dead on Samhain. Additionally, stone Sun Worship alters were erected for human sacrifices not involving immolation (burning). The mysterious stone alter at Stonehenge in England, now extant, is just such a Druid alter.
Druids Defeated by the Newly Ascendant Roman Empire:
In 47 B.C., at the conclusion of the “Gallic War”, Roman General and soon to be Roman Emperor, Julius Caesar, defeated the Celts at Brittania (modern day Great Britain) and drove the Druids into hiding and outlawed Druidism, as even Caesar was horrified by the Druid human sacrifices he became aware of, causing him to write about it extensively in his historical account of the Gallic War.
