Video Games Should Be Fun | Devil May Cry Creator Calls Out Industry’s Shift Towards Graphics First

The creator of Devil May Cry, Hideki Kamiya, spoke in a recent interview about the current state of the gaming industry and why they should focus on gameplay.

Video games putting an emphasis on the user experience should be obvious, but in the current age of AAA gaming it’s becoming a rarity. Too often studios focus on graphics or reuse popular mechanics from other titles thinking if it worked in one thing it should work in their game to. Unfortunately, this method, at best, is inoffensive and at worse boring. In either case it’s not conducive to something being memorable. Kamiya thinks developers need to approach development with the intention of creating a positive experience that is unique to the individual game.
