Phoenix, AZ - Police said two officers were responding to the area of 4th Avenue and Osborn Road around 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 10, looking into a report of a stolen car. As authorities arrived, they heard gunshots being fired nearby, which came from a nearby alley in an apartment complex.

When the two officers arrived, they found a man standing next to a black car, whom police initially said matched the description of a suspect.

The officers said he was with a rifle on top of the roof and that they issued several commands, which he ignored. At that point, he grabbed the firearm and drove away.

“He has a rifle,” an officer is heard in the first clip of the department’s briefing. She stands behind the police SUV. “He’s taking off. Black Honda Civic.”

Edited bodycam from the other officer shows him stepping outside of the police vehicle. He yells, “Hey! Let me see your hands,” and then repeats himself.

“Show me your f***king hands,” he continues before the suspect flees, prompting him to get back inside the police car. He tells his fellow officer to “go after him,” ensuing a pursuit.

Detectives said that during the pursuit, the suspect continued firing indiscriminately along city neighborhoods from inside his car.

As he approached the area of 16th and Portland streets, police boxed him in. At that point, an officer reported that the suspect reached for a weapon inside, striking him.

Officers then provided first aid until paramedics arrived. The suspect, who hasn’t been named, was rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police recovered a handgun and a rifle from inside the car.
