WHERE ARE THE WORLD'S ARMIES?

At the 2025 United Nations General Assembly on September 23, Colombian President Gustavo Petro delivered a speech to remember, one of the boldest challenges to Western hypocrisy in recent memory. He urged the General Assembly to bypass the Security Council’s veto power and invoke the Uniting for Peace Resolution to defend the Palestinian people.

Since then, tensions between Colombia and the Trump administration have erupted. Trump accused Petro of being an “illegal drug leader,” cut off U.S. aid, and imposed tariffs on Colombian goods.

At the same time, U.S. military operations in the Caribbean Sea, presented as anti-drug missions, have left dozens dead, including Colombian fishermen allegedly targeted in error. Petro condemned the attacks as a violation of Colombia’s sovereignty, demanding a criminal investigation into Trump and other U.S. officials.

Meanwhile, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been repeatedly violated by Israel. Gaza’s media office reports at least 47 breaches of the truce, resulting in civilian deaths.

These ongoing violations only validate Petro’s warning that a global system built on veto power and selective justice cannot sustain peace. When accountability disappears, the entire architecture of international law begins to collapse.
