U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 1,406 people across Massachusetts between September 4 and 30 during “Operation Patriot 2.0,” targeting individuals believed to be in the country illegally. The enforcement sweep focused on “egregious criminal alien offenders,” including alleged murderers, rapists, drug traffickers, child sex predators, and members of transnational gangs like MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Trinitarios, and 18th Street. Approximately 600 of those arrested had significant criminal convictions or pending charges, while 277 had previously been ordered to leave the U.S. by the Department of Justice. ICE officials criticized local “sanctuary” policies for releasing suspects instead of transferring them to federal custody, arguing these practices compromise public safety.
