Highway Made of Stars | ORIGINAL Poem to Song
Just trying to ease the weight of heavy thoughts and work through reconciling with unresolvable burdens. I tried for two weeks to write about something else. Anything else. But nothing else would come out so I gave in. Welcome to a tiny piece of the chaos that lives rent-free in mah brainzz.

Lyrics
Maybe I wasn't born early enough,
should have lived in the old west,
or farther back in the dark ages
where the land was open
and free of fences and cages.
In a time, when highways made of stars
and galaxies spread across the vast abyss
was a lone traveler’s only light.
Where adventure begins at pavement's end,
and dirt paths weave like forest streets
through the beauty of divine creations.
I wonder what difference it would have made
to be born with a soul granted escape
into the wilds under a highway made of stars,
perhaps a bit lonely but never alone.
Maybe I wasn't born late enough,
when repairs can be made for grave mistakes,
that make it hard to breathe,
... hard to hold on to what's true,
... hard to see dreams followed through,
without ruining honest reliance
on the almighty God of my heart
while the world beats into my head
that independence is not stripped
by the dependent essence of the collective...
... but we all know it strives to do just that.
...it strives to do just that.
I used to go along to get along,
even to the detriment of my heart.
I was not blameless as I indulged
in the comforts of my misplaced life,
riddled with holes in hearts and broken parts
scattered about in an endless fray.
... fray.
I wonder what difference it would have made
to be born with a soul granted escape
into the wilds under a highway made of stars,
perhaps a bit lonely but never alone.
In small, quiet breaks carved out in the fray,
far I go from crowded rooms
out into the wild blue where I find God
in the distant yonders where I roam.
Wayfaring eyes search a night sky
for a highway made of stars
far above where I lay my head to rest
and sing a little song saying,
“this is where I belong.”
I wonder what difference it would have made
to be born with a soul granted escape
into the wilds under a highway made of stars...
...a highway made of stars.
...perhaps a bit lonely...
...maybe always yearning...
...but never losing hope...
...in the fray.
...in the fray.
