Frankfort, KY - Kentucky State Police honored four people Thursday who rushed to help a trooper shot during a traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport on July 13.

State police released dramatic dash cam and body camera footage showing the incident that left Trooper Jude Remilien wounded on Terminal Drive.

The video shows Remilien approaching a pickup truck with Christian music playing on his cruiser radio. The shooter was in the back seat of the vehicle.

After gunshots rang out, both cameras captured Remilien running away as the driver got out and the shooter moved to the driver’s seat and fled.

Jimmy and Jessica Alexander, their daughter Taylor Hall and airport officer Adam Arnold all came to Remilien’s aid.

“I just kept trying to get him water and keep him cool and talk to him,” Jimmy Alexander said.

Police said timing and training were crucial in the incident, with Remilien’s reaction and the four people’s help happening just in time.

The four received the highest honor given to civilians or non-state police employees.

“If that was my son, would want someone to do the same thing. That’s how I was raised,” Alexander said.

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said he believes there are moments in life where the right people are at the right place at the right time.

Troopers at the ceremony said despite conducting thousands of traffic stops every day, watching the video was extremely difficult.

Trooper Remilien continues to recover from the incident but was walking on his own power Thursday.
