On October 15, Burkina Faso and pan-Africanists around the world commemorated the 38th anniversary of visionary President Thomas Sankara's murder at the hands of a French-backed coup. In Ouagadougou, a new generation of pan-African revolutionaries gathered from around the continent for an "Heirs of Sankara" conference hosted by modern-day Burkinabé President Ibrahim Traoré.

In his fiery address, Traoré proclaimed that Sankara's "spirit remains in the world" despite his assassins' best efforts to extinguish his memory. Indeed, he insisted that Sankara's message resonates more than ever with today's African youth.

Traoré also excoriated the mental cocolonisation ot just of the bourgeois compradors ruling so much of the continent today, but also of their footsoldiers killing each other in fratricidal wars from Sudan to the Congo on behalf of distant imperial patrons.
