ISA 14: Prophecy against Babylon. After Israel’s restoration, Israel will sing a taunt against the king of Babylon, the mighty oppressor. The king’s arrogance is described in terms of a morning star (a shining one). This is a clear reference to Satan who sought to ascend to the heavens and make himself like the Most High.
ISA 14:13-15, For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of GOD; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.
Ch 15-16: Prophecy against Moab.In this section of text, a long section of text regarding Moab. Moab had somewhat of a relationship with Israel. Isaiah describes a sudden destruction of Moab, a neighboring nation with a long, troubled relationship with Israel. The people of Moab are depicted mourning bitterly, wailing, wearing sackcloth, and fleeing as refugees. This judgment comes because of Moab’s arrogance and pride, which blinded them to their own sin and led to their hostility toward Israel and GOD’s People.
ISA 17: Prophecy against Damascus and EphraimIn this section of text, Isaiah prophesies that Damascus, the capital of Syria (Aram), will be completely destroyed and cease to be a city. Partially fulfilled. The northern kingdom of Israel (Ephraim) is judged alongside Damascus due to its alliance with Syria and widespread idolatry.Despite the judgment, a small remnant of Israel will turn back to the LORD GOD.
