Every November 11th, I want to pause to recognize something extraordinary—the unwavering courage of men and women who chose to serve our nation. This Veterans Day, I’m not just observing a holiday; I’m celebrating the living legacy of sacrifice, honor, and dedication that defines the American spirit.

Behind every uniform is a story. Behind every story is a family. Behind every family is a community forever changed by service.

There’s always a soldier missing a child’s first steps but ensuring countless families could sleep safely at night.

A soldier, saving lives in combat zones while dreaming of returning home to open a small business in their hometown.

These aren't just statistics—these are our neighbors, our friends, our heroes.

Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Today, it honors all American veterans—living and deceased—who served in wartime and peacetime.

Our veterans have earned more than our thanks—they've earned our active support. Many don't realize the full scope of benefits and services available to them:

• Healthcare benefits through the VA system
• Educational opportunities including the GI Bill
• Home loan guarantees for purchasing property
• Career transition assistance and job placement services
• Mental health resources and counseling support
• Disability compensation for service-connected conditions

When someone serves, their entire family serves. Military spouses navigate frequent relocations, single-parenting during deployments, and career sacrifices. Children grow up understanding duty, resilience, and the true cost of freedom.

This Veterans Day, we honor not just our veterans, but the families who stood beside them.

From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, from the jungles of Vietnam to the deserts of Iraq—American veterans have answered the call across generations. They've carried our flag into uncertainty so we could live in security.

Every veteran has a story worth telling. Every family touched by military service holds memories that deserve recognition.
