American Canyon, CA - Dash camera video released by the American Canyon Police Department Wednesday shows two shoplifters spinning out-of-control in an SUV during a high-speed chase with police on Interstate-80.

The incident began Tuesday morning when an ACPD officer spotted a black Hyundai Kona near Veteran's Park. “The vehicle had just been involved in a theft at the nearby Walgreens,” police wrote.

A pursuit ensued on westbound Interstate-80 at high speeds through traffic, ACPD said. The Hyundai swerved out of control, collided with a center median near the San Pablo Dam Road exit, wildly spun across the highway, and slammed head-on into a wall, a deputy’s dash camera video shows.

The Hyundai was traveling over 100 mph and narrowly missed striking other vehicles before it crashed, the video shows.

Police identified the driver as Dontarion Layne, 28, of Oakland, and Njeri Harambe, 30, of Oakland.

“As Layne exited the vehicle, stolen merchandise was observed falling out of his hoodie,” ACPD wrote.

Officers searched the mangled Hyundai and found four large bags containing stolen items from Walgreens worth thousands of dollars, police said.

The duo was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluations before they were booked into a Napa County jail on suspicion of conspiracy, grand theft, and shoplifting. Layne and Harambe have multiple prior convictions for shoplifting, police said.
