Verse 1 begins with: “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh.”

Verse 2 warns that “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the motives.”
We may judge ourselves by our intentions, but Yahweh examines the roots of those intentions — the true motives unseen by others. The fear of Yahweh purifies the heart from self-deception.

In verse 3 we are told: “Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed.”
Success is not defined by worldly outcome but by alignment with divine purpose. To “commit” here means literally to roll your works onto Yahweh, trusting His direction to bring them to fullness.

Verse 4 continues with a truth often missed: “Yahweh has made everything for its own end—even the wicked for the day of evil.”
This is not fatalism, but divine order. It means that nothing escapes His purpose — even rebellion becomes a stage upon which His justice and mercy are revealed.

Verse 6 gives the key to cleansing: “By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil.”
Mercy and truth are not opposites — they are the two hands of divine correction. Mercy covers; truth restores. The fear of Yahweh—holy awe—empowers us to walk away from evil, not out of terror, but reverence.

Verse 9 declares: “A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps.”
This is one of the deepest prophetic principles of wisdom. Planning is not sin — it is participation. But direction belongs to the Spirit. The mature believer learns to walk in both preparation and surrender.

In verse 18, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Every kingdom that exalts self collapses. Every heart that humbles itself is lifted up. Yahweh resists pride because it resists truth — and He fills the humble because they make room for Him.

And in the final verse, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from Yahweh.”
Even chance bends under His will. Nothing falls outside His sovereignty. This chapter ends as it began: reminding us that Yahweh governs the unseen flow of life.

💡 Prophetic Insight:
When we align our hearts with the fear of Yahweh, our speech becomes purified, our plans sanctified, and our steps ordered. Wisdom then flows like living water — pleasant words become honey, healing the bones (v.24). The Spirit of Yahweh trains us to rule our spirit rather than be ruled by it, for the one who controls his spirit is greater than the conqueror of cities (v.32).
