Dr. Jeff Coller from Johns Hopkins University said this research shows the ongoing beneficial surprises of mRNA medicines for human health. Researchers, initially developing personalized mRNA cancer vaccines, realized that even non-specific mRNA vaccines prompted immune activity against cancer. They analyzed nearly 1,000 advanced cancer patient records. They compared those who received a Pfizer or Moderna shot to those who didn't. The findings were striking: vaccinated lung cancer patients were almost twice as likely to survive three years after beginning treatment than unvaccinated patients. Vaccinated melanoma patients also showed longer median survival, although exact figures were unclear since some were still alive when the data was analyzed. Non-mRNA vaccines, like flu shots, showed no significant impact.
