Here in Canada, the rules around doctor-assisted suicide—what the law calls “MAID”—have changed dramatically in just a few years. You no longer have to be terminally ill to qualify. People with chronic conditions or disabilities can now apply. The government has also proposed opening access to people whose sole medical condition is mental illness. And in coming years, it’s considering extending eligibility to mature minors—children.

So what’s actually easier to get: help to live, or help to die?
