Mehdi Hasan Says If Christians Can Have Church Bells Muslims Can Play The Call To Prayer

Posted • October 22, 2025: This is a tough one for me because I despise Hamas sympathizer Mehdi Hasan. But if Christians are allowed to ring church bells to call parishioners to church, then Muslims should be allowed to broadcast the call to prayer over loudspeakers at mosques. I hate to say it, but it makes sense. I've written a lot about the U.K., and I've seen a lot of complaints from Brits about the Muslim call to prayer being blasted from loudspeakers at 5 a.m. A few councils in the U.K. have put noise restrictions on the broadcasts as well as time constraints. The first Adhan, as it is called, comes before sunrise, and it's followed by four more into the night. Anyway, here's a short clip of Hasan: Mehdi Hasan to American Christians: "If you can have your church bell, we can have our Islamic prayer call." —— I can't find it in the archives, but I remember writing a post about a group singing outside a church in London who were told to stop by a police officer.

I can only find the video on Facebook, but there is indeed a female police officer telling a woman that her group is not allowed to sing church songs outside of church grounds. Reportedly, the police apologized and said the officer was wrong. That’s noise pollution and if we’re going to ignore the laws and play the freedom card, Christians should counter that noise with “Jesus loves me” on loud speakers at the same time. That's something I hadn't thought of. False equivalence. The islamic call to prayer is a statement of religious supremacy, go and look up what it means. Ringing bells is not. Bells are bells, while the Muslim call to prayer is a spoken statement.

Church bells ring from the faith that built the nation. If he wants equal volume, there are 50+ nations with the Islamic call to prayer that can accomodate him. Christianity laid the foundation for individual rights and liberty—principles that stand in stark contrast to those of Islam. Even the sounds of a church bell and a prayer call reflect that difference. I suppose people like me on the "far-right" are just Islamophobic and fear Sharia law taking hold in the country.
