Get to know this out-and-back trail near Blanca, Colorado. This is a popular trail for backpacking, birding, and camping, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are April through October. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

This trail offers panoramic views of the surrounding Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the San Luis Valley. Wildflowers bloom in the summer, adding vibrant color to the rugged landscape, and the alpine forest is filled with spruce, fir, and aspen trees. Upon reaching Lake Como, the scenery is awe-inspiring—this pristine, glacial lake is surrounded by towering peaks and offers a peaceful retreat in a remote, high-altitude setting.

This route begins at a parking area at the base of Mount Blanca road. High-clearance and short wheelbase 4x4 vehicles can drive further up the road to higher parking areas to shorten this distance of the hike. Heavily-modified vehicles with experienced drivers can continue all the way to Lake Como or even Blue Lakes!

So, this road is known as Lake Como Road, Mt. Blanca Road, and Blanca Peak Trail. This trail is an extremely popular Jeep road. It has a reputation of being one of the most extreme & challenging off-road trails in Colorado. Most websites rank its difficulty as either an 8 or 9 out of 10.
