Sriracha - 2nd session trailer slot training 22 Oct 2025

Rockin R Sriracha (See-Rah-Cha) our weanling filly Mountain Pleasure Horse aka Old Kentucky Saddler spent 6 hours riding in our horse trailer from Kentucky to Michigan with all the dividers out and her free to move within the trailer freely basically 3 weeks ago. Now she needs to learn to be trailered standing much more restrained - in just one slot of the trailer - so that the other slots can carry other horses to the trail head where she will participate on the trail ride by being ponied off "Aunt Avi." Yesterday evening I practiced with her for the first time getting used to having the divider close up beside her while she ate her evening grain. This morning I again fed her grain in slot one of the trailer - along with hay. Then for both assurance that her friend was next to her - along with making it exactly like it will be when we trailer to the trail head I loaded Avi in slot two and let her eat her morning grain and hay there. After a few minutes observing Sriracha calmly eating we went around a four mile block then parked the trailer again. As we headed out I stopped at the end of our drive to check on Sriracha - found her calmly eating - good sign. Made another stop and check at the second stop sign - found her calmly eating - good sign. Sriracha did not favor Avi backing out of the trailer - leaving her all alone in slot one (did not do anything radical - just nickered and looked) but with a calm reassuring voice she settled quickly.

Personally I like boring uneventful horse trailering. And prior training sessions - practicing until you cannot get it wrong - help improve the odds of boring uneventful horse trailering.
