Nostalgic Memories: What Drew Me to Cigars?

Man, it goes back to when I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8, tagging along with my parents to the mall during Christmas time. The place was all decked out—lights everywhere, fake snow in the corners, that whole holiday buzz. I'd wander off a bit and spot these older guys just sitting there smoking cigars. The smell hit me every time: that rich, woody tobacco scent, kinda like leather and earth mixed with something sweet. It wasn't gross like cigarettes; it felt... grown-up, you know? Like they were in on some secret club.
Back then, everything felt nicer. People actually held doors for each other without making a big deal out of it. You'd hear "Merry Christmas!" all over, real and warm, not forced. Strangers would chat like they'd known you forever. Folks just seemed happier, more open. No rushing around glued to phones or snapping at each other.
That smell stuck with me, though. Years later, when I tried my first cigar, it wasn't about looking cool—it was like stepping back into that mall, feeling that easy kindness again. I miss it. Hope we can get back to that someday: simple stuff like a smile and a door held open.
What's your first cigar memory like?
