This morning, I was meditating on knowing God but not just knowing Him along but understanding Him. Anyone can say they know God but will never understand Him.

God speaks for Himself in this matter in Jeremiah 9:23-24:

"Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord."

Notice that God made sure to place the word "understand" before "know." That really sunk in. He wants us to understand Him, and that opens the door to knowing Him. There can never be a knowing Jesus unless you understand Him. The two must go together or you will be serving Jesus Christ on our own terms.

These days people are so filled up with all kinds of religious angles, duties, religious exercises and more in their own attempts to master their own kind of brand of relationship. Years and years later they go on searching and struggling.

There is no glory in riches, wisdom and might of our own doings to get to know God. However, the emphasis is not in what you do or ever can or will do. The ultimate glory according to God is understanding Him, or there cannot be any kind of a healthy relationship at all with Him. The earth demands riches, wisdom and might. God exercises lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness.

When you do understand Him then you can walk with Him in harmony and joy. Understanding is the foothold of all-love.

"To some of us, there often comes a such a sense vastness of things and or our own significance." - Amy Carmichael
