Col. Macgregor says the West is operating on second-hand information and that Moscow likely sees Ukraine’s refusal to negotiate as proof that diplomacy is dead. He argues Russia will now advance westward toward Odessa and Kharkov, having lost patience with the West’s stance. Macgregor adds that Russia never wanted war with NATO and remains puzzled that improving U.S.-Russia relations is not a top priority for Trump.

If you look at the map, it would be unwise for them to make the offer they did.
But if it was offered and Ukraine said no, that suggests to Moscow there is no room for negotiation and that the only outcome is the one decided on the battlefield.
The Russians don’t understand why U.S.-Russian relations are not at the top of Trump’s agenda."
