TwitchCon Was a Disaster
TwitchCon 2025 opened with controversy after streamer Emiru was assaulted during a meet-and-greet in San Diego when a man bypassed the line, grabbed her face, and tried to kiss her without consent. Security did not step in, and it was her personal bodyguard who stopped the man. Emiru later released a statement criticizing Twitch’s lack of safety, while Twitch CEO Dan Clancy responded by saying “safety is our top priority” but framed it as a broader “societal problem.” The response sparked backlash from creators including Asmongold, Valkyrae, and QTCinderella, who said this proves why many women skipped the event. The assault adds to TwitchCon’s history of safety concerns, including the 2022 foam pit disaster and harassment incidents in 2024.
At the same time, international news focused on the Middle East as Israel launched airstrikes on Rafah, with reports saying between 11 and 40 people were killed. Israel claimed the strikes were in response to Hamas fighters attacking troops with gunfire and RPGs, raising new pressure on the fragile ceasefire brokered by Trump just a week earlier. Trump told reporters the ceasefire is “still in place” but said he would review details before commenting further. Vice President JD Vance traveled to Israel to meet with Netanyahu and security officials to reinforce the truce and advance Trump’s peace plan, while Trump envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff urged both sides to avoid breaking the deal.
Meanwhile, a viral video circulated online showing masked men with text claiming cartels had placed $50,000 bounties on ICE and CBP agents. The clip spread on TikTok, Instagram, and X, prompting DHS to repost it and warn that threats against law enforcement will not be tolerated. Officials clarified the video was not the source of their intelligence but an example of how these threats circulate online, saying they have credible evidence that cartels and affiliated gangs are discussing real bounties. Critics argued the viral clip was fake, but DHS said cartel chatter makes the threat serious regardless. The agency stressed that ignoring these warnings would send the wrong message at a time when law enforcement faces increasing risks at the border.
