Ukraine faced a grim outlook as President Zelensky returned empty-handed from Washington after failing to secure Tomahawk missiles from the U.S. President Trump refused to arm Kyiv, reportedly following an eleventh-hour call with Putin, who hinted at a Hungary meeting.

While Russia appears to have gained the upper hand on the battlefield, the cost of the war for Moscow remains staggering. According to ‘The Economist’, Russian casualties have surged to nearly 1.4 million, with hundreds of thousands of soldiers dead and vast quantities of equipment destroyed, including tanks, artillery, aircraft, and drones.

Despite heavy losses, battle lines have barely shifted since October 2022, and calculations suggest Russia would need over 100 years to fully occupy Ukraine. Trump continues to push diplomacy, proposing a ceasefire with frozen frontlines, which Zelensky has hinted he may accept, offering a potential, but fragile, path to limit further devastation.
