🇬🇧 This World is Very Old

The oldest baobab is found in the village of Zwigodini of Mutale, in Limpopo, South Africa, and is estimated to be about 2000 years old.

The Venda people call it Muri Kunguluwa, which means "the roaring tree" because the tree emits a roaring sound when the wind blows through its branches.

It is also called “the tree of life”, because it serves as a source of life for the animals and the community that lives around it. 80% of its trunk is composed of water and can hold up to 4500 liters, which makes it a source of water for the community and animals.

Elephants eat the bark. The baboons eat the fruit. They can also eat the leaves. Birds, bees, fruit bats and galagos nest in the tree.

Both its fruit and its leaves are used in traditional medicine and gastronomy. Dried fruit powder is used in beverages, as a source of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. The bark can be used to make ropes, baskets, mats, fabrics and paper.

It also has a spiritual significance for Africans. In ancient times, leaders and elders gathered under the huge baobab trees to discuss important issues. They believed that the spirit of the baobab would help them make wise decisions.
