Isaiah 61

By Pastor Gary Wayne

Text: Isaiah 61:1-11, Luke 4

Lk.4:1,14, 18-21

I personally believe this same passage Jesus read and declared in ver.21 “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing,” has been passed to His followers for us to follow through as well.

As I read through Isa.61, there are parts that jump out at me that God has called us to be a part of in fulfilling His plan.

Isa.61:1-11
Ver.3, 4, Who are the “they”?
Ver. 6, Who are the “you”?
Ver. 10, Who is the “me”?

I want to influence you to realize the Prophetic Word of 61 is not just applied to Jesus, but to His followers.
Re-read 1&2 with yourself in mind.

Ver. 2 What is “The acceptable year of the Lord?” Reading this in the NKJV doesn’t do it justice.
“…to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor…” NIV
“He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD’s favor has come…” NLT
“ I am sent to announce a new season of Yahweh’s grace…” PT

What does it mean to have favor with someone in a powerful position?

What is this saying to us in 2025? You and I have God’s favor to minister to people.
This is a season for the Lord’s favor to be poured out.
You have the favor and anointing of God on you to minister.

When you encounter someone who is: brokenhearted, bound, who are mourning, who have heaviness, who are the product of generational problems – we individually have the Spirit of God on us for that problem.
It’s like, “Oh, wait a minute, I have a special coupon for that.” “I have favor from God for this situation.”

Start paying special attention to the people in your sphere of influence - listen specifically for opportunity to exercise your favor from God to: heal broken hearts, broken relationships, when you hear about situations of re-occurring broken generations. Stop and speak healing.

Lk.4:21 “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
“The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” NLT

I feel I need to warn you and me of our enemy’s strategy for keeping you sidelined.

Lk.4:22a
Everyone was impressed by how well Jesus spoke, in awe of the beautiful words of grace that came from his lips. I think they had goose bumps as they encountered God’s Word. This prophecy finally coming true.

But then… with the enemy’s help they instantly switched. Lk.4:22b
“Wait a minute, “Who does he think he is? Isn’t he Joseph’s son, who grew up here in Nazareth?”

I can hear our enemy, once we get away from the heat of this moment’s revelation say to you:
Who do you think you are?
You are just a normal, mundane person.
This isn’t God, it’s just in your mind.
Do you think that with your prayer miracles will happen?
What will they think?
What if nothing happens and I look like a fool?

I feel this morning, God would have me pray over us and release a fresh revelation, and a fresh anointing to fulfill His calling to ministry.
