"For we walk by faith, not by sight" 📖

Welcome new and returning future saints and faith seekers! In this episode 63, we read and reflect on 2 Corinthians Chapter 5, verses 1-10 — a powerful passage that speaks into our eternal hope, the journey of faith, and what it means to be a “faith-seeker” in everyday life. 🌟

🌿 Overview: “Our Future Destiny”

In this passage, Paul compares our human life to living in a temporary tent, reminding believers that our true and permanent home is with God in heaven. Though we struggle and “groan” in our earthly bodies, God has prepared something greater — an eternal dwelling not made by human hands.

The Holy Spirit is given to us as a guarantee of this promise, a down payment of the glory to come. That’s why Christians are called to walk by faith, not by sight — trusting in what is unseen yet certain through Christ.

Paul emphasizes courage and purpose: whether we are here on earth or with the Lord, our goal is to please God. Ultimately, we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, where our actions — good or bad — will be revealed.

🔍 In-Depth Explanation & Reflection:

1. The earthly “tent” and the heavenly “building” (vv. 1-5)
Paul uses the metaphor of our physical body as a “tent” — something temporary, fragile, subject to decay — contrasting it with a “building from God… eternal in heaven.”
This imagery invites us to consider that our present life, though meaningful, is not the end. It points to a greater reality: God prepares for us a dwelling not made with hands — something beyond what we see, beyond what we can fully imagine.
The “groaning” in verses 2-4 conveys a deep longing: while we inhabit the “tent,” we yearn for the fuller transformation. We don’t wish to be “naked” (i.e., without a body/spirit union) but “further clothed” — that what is mortal might be swallowed up by life.
Verse 5 assures us this future is not merely wishful thinking: “God … has given us the Spirit as a first installment.” In other words, the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of what is to come.

2. Walking by faith, not by sight (vv. 6-9)
Here Paul says: “We are always courageous … for we walk by faith, not by sight.” (v. 7)
Being a faith-seeker means choosing to trust God’s promises and live with hope in unseen realities. The “sight” would rely solely on what is tangible, immediate, comfortable; “faith” trusts in what God has done and will do, even when the “tent” shakes.
Verse 8: “we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord” reminds us that our true “home” is with God, and our present life is a journey towards that home.
Verse 9: “Therefore we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away.” Whether in our physical lives or beyond, our aim is to live in a way aligned with God’s will.

3. Accountability & eternity (v. 10)
Paul adds a sobering but hopeful note: “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.”
This does not undermine God’s grace — rather, it frames our present life as having eternal significance. Our choices, how we live by faith, how we love and serve, matter in the big picture.

💡 How this passage pertains to your life as a faith-seeker:
If you’re feeling temporary, fragile, or “just passing through” — this passage reassures you that life has deeper roots and eternal meaning.

If you face struggles, losses, or pain (the “groaning” of the tent) — you are allowed to long, to hope, to await transformation. God is already at work.

If you find yourself focusing only on the visible, the measurable, the “here and now” — this calls you to step into a wider horizon, to walk by faith, not just by sight.

-If you wonder what your life “adds up to” — remember: your everyday acts of faith, love, obedience contribute to something eternal. You’re living not just for today, but for the destiny God has prepared.

🙏 Reflection for today:
Take a moment to quiet your heart. Ask God: “In what ways am I too attached to my ‘tent’ — my comfort, my certainties, my immediate sight-based perspective?”
Invite Him: “Grant me the courage to walk by faith, not by sight; to live now in light of the glory to come; to please you in all I do.”
Let yourself feel the longing for the “building from God” and rest in the promise of the Spirit who is the first installment.
As a faith-seeker, you are on a pilgrimage — and this passage is a signpost reminding you: your future is anchored, your faith matters, your hope is alive.
