I love my M4 Mac Mini, but like many owners, I am heartily sick of having to lift it up and fumble around the back to power it on. Whose idea was it to put the recessed power switch in the single most annoying place? What is wrong with a nice, simple to find, and easy to use button on the front?
Looking around for a simple and cheap solution, I found this available on Temu from the strangely named XT-XINTE company The same item is available across Temu at a range of prices and under various names. I could not find it on Amazon when I looked, although there are plenty of similar products at a rather higher price. Nothing in the world of Apple is ever inexpensive, but at £9.65, this one was not so bad as some of the others out there.
What you get in the plain and unbranded box is the Mac Stand. Nothing more is needed, and nothing more is supplied.
At 127mm square and 20mm high, it is exactly the same size as the M4 Mac Mini and neatly supports it. It is made from brushed aluminium alloy and almost (but not quite) matches the Mac Mini colour, and it certainly has the same high end feel to it. Along each side, it has a mesh covered opening to admit air to keep the Mac cool - not that overheating has ever been an issue for me. Personally, although cosmetically attractive, I regret the addition of the mesh screens as the openings could otherwise have been used for cable routing. The framework inside the stand is designed, so we are told, to keep cool intake air and hot exhaust air separate. There are 4 tiny silicon dots on the inside top of the stand, to prevent the Mac from slipping when in place, and the inside is concave here to accommodate the bowed underside of the Mac.
Does it help with the button issue? Well, yes, it does provided nothing else on your desk is in the way.
So that is it, really. The stand does two things - it helps with the non issue of keeping the Mac cool when in use and with the rather more pressing problem of gaining access to the power button.
The price is good, the stand looks good too, and it gets the job done.
