Day 291 – The Upside-Down Kingdom: Greatness Redefined — Matthew 19–21 | Bible In A Year (CSB)

In these chapters, Jesus turns worldly expectations upside down. He teaches that greatness in His Kingdom isn’t found in power or wealth, but in humility and surrender. The rich young ruler walks away sad, unwilling to give up his possessions, while little children are welcomed with open arms. Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard workers to remind us that God’s grace isn’t earned—it’s freely given. Then, as He enters Jerusalem on a donkey, He fulfills prophecy and declares Himself as King, but not the kind of King anyone expected.

Questions:
1. When the rich young ruler walks away from Jesus, what does that moment teach us about the danger of divided loyalty?

2. How does the parable of the vineyard workers challenge our ideas about fairness and grace?
