It was no doubt a beautiful seaport city, with people of all nationalities and backgrounds living, visiting, shopping, and doing business of all sorts there. It was also a city that had earned, rightfully so, a bad reputation, even among the pagan worlds of the day. Every kind of sinful activity imaginable was not only available but was openly practiced.
It was in this city the Apostle Paul, on his second missionary journey, planted a church. However, in very short order, it became a church in crisis as many of the world’s attitudes and actions crept in. Paul writes a letter pointing out their sin and the steps that need to be taken to correct that sin.
Today Pastor Rick begins to take us on a long term journey through Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth, a letter that we know as 1 Corinthians. Before we dive into the text of the letter, we want to begin our study with a little, "Background And Introduction."
