The FDA’s NDT Ban, PAWS Progress, Toxic Mold Exposure, and Low Dose Naltrexone
The FDA’s Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) Ban: Natural desiccated thyroid is a medication made from the dried and powdered thyroid glands of pigs, sheep, or cows, used to treat hypothyroidism. It contains a combination of T3 and T4 hormones, is a natural alternative to synthetic prescription thyroid hormones, and has been used for over 100 years.
So, what does this mean for patients such as myself who the conventional medical community were unable to help despite showing the hallmark symptoms of hypothyroidism? We’ll be forced to turn to synthetic prescription hormones, but there’s another problem: the lab standards in conventional medicine are wrong and do not take into consideration the individual needs of the patient. This situation leaves many who had found relief with NDT for years to be out of options.
For many people, this isn’t about preference; it’s about what actually keeps their thyroid levels stable and their lives functional, myself included. Hypothyroidism was one of the more recent issues I addressed in my healing journey. I saw a conventional GP and endocrinologist, a naturopath, and a functional integrative medical doctor, all of which failed to both diagnose and treat my hypothyroidism. This led to disability and an inability to properly heal. Before I started NDT, I wasn’t functional and my healing process had halted leading to unnecessary medical issues that were extremely expensive.
The frustrating part is that decisions like this are often made without real-world input from the people living with thyroid conditions every day. It can be incredibly challenging to find adequate thyroid care in our current medical system.
I urge you to please visit https://savendt.org to learn about ways to fight this decision. You may write your congressman, sign a petition, or create awareness by posting on social media. If you’re affected, talk with your doctor about alternatives, and keep an eye on updates — I’ll share more as I learn.
PAWS Update: I’m making a lot of progress with PAWS. I’m still alternating between CerebroPep and microdosing psilocybin with lions mane. Sleep is still hit or miss, but my energy levels are slowly increasing.
Toxic Mold Exposure: I’ve made some progress here as well, although slow. I’ve been able to bring myself to exercise a couple times a week without terrible burnout and my pain levels have started to decrease.
Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN): A few days ago, I started my first dose of LDN. I’m making my own solution with 50 mg tablets mixed with 50 ml of distilled water. I’m starting extremely low at .1 mg and will go up very slowly over time. I can’t speak to its effectiveness yet, but will continue to update as I progress.
