Vows To Hold Terrorists Accountable
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif underscored Pakistan’s resolve to hold terrorists accountable wherever the source of terrorism lies, signalling a clear shift in policy toward Afghanistan.
Speaking after recent cross-border clashes that left 23 Pakistani troops martyred & over 200 Taliban fighters dead, Asif stated that relations with Kabul would no longer follow past diplomatic norms.
“There will be no protest notes or appeals for peace; no delegations will go to Kabul. Wherever the source of terrorism lies, it will have to pay a heavy price,” he said.
The remarks come after Pakistan conducted precision strikes in Kandahar & Kabul following unprovoked attacks on border posts on 11th October.
Asif accused Afghanistan of colluding with India against Pakistan & insisted that all Afghans residing in Pakistan must return to their homeland, noting that the Taliban now govern Kabul.
Asif detailed Pakistan’s extensive diplomatic engagement with the Afghan Taliban since 2021, including visits by foreign & defence ministers, national security advisers & multiple high-level meetings & border flag meetings.
Despite these efforts totalling 3,844 casualties & 10,347 terrorist incidents over the period the Afghan authorities have not taken meaningful steps to curb cross-border terrorism.
On the domestic front, the Defence Minister praised the Punjab government’s decisive handling of TLP protests, asserting that Pakistan must shed its soft state image.
He emphasised that the nation should emerge as a hard state governed by the constitution and rule of law, using Punjab’s response as a model for national counter-extremism measures.
Asif’s statements followed a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, attended by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, senior military officials & provincial leaders, which reviewed internal security and affirmed strong civil-military coordination in tackling terrorism and extremism.
