Assassin’s Creed Shadows – The Butterfly Collector and the Game No Children Played

While passing by Katano Castle, I encountered a peculiar woman with the calm demeanor of a caretaker or perhaps a teacher. There was something whimsical in her eyes, but also a sadness she tried to mask. She told me she had created a game—ten origami butterflies hidden in trees across Osaka—for the local children. But none of them wanted to play. A gesture of joy, now forgotten and left to wither. She asked if I would play instead.

At first, I wasn’t sure why I should. But then I remembered—I had already found six of these butterflies on my journey without even realizing they were part of a game. Perhaps that’s the way of it: even beauty unnoticed has meaning. And so I agreed. This quest is not about gold or weapons. It’s about something else. Maybe about kindness. Maybe about curiosity. Maybe about remembering that even in times of war and death, we are still human—and humans still need to play. I wonder what the reward will be. But more than that, I wonder what this game will teach me.
