SOLOMON - THE KING WHO PRAYED IN THE PRESENCE OF YHWH

II Chronicles 6:20 – 7:1

Solomon is praying with his arms outstretched to YHWH.
His face is down to the floor. His prayer is a plea for national forgiveness!

Solomon knows the heart of all humankind is evil. As King Solomon stands before the Eternal God, Who was all around him in the Dark Cloud.

Solomon knows the sin of his people. Idolatry! Witchcraft!
Sexual Perversion! These were sins of which, Solomon, himself, would partake in; exactly the sins he had just prayed to God to forgive!

Solomon just built YHWH a house to dwell in. Solomon knows and had already said YHWH cannot dwell or be contained in a house built with hands YHWH dwells in Heaven.

Solomon knows also that YHWH is the Judge of the whole creation! He is pleading mercy from YHWH. This All-Powerful Judge not only gives all of us our just recompense, But only YHWH alone knows the hearts of the sons of men!

That means since YHWH is the only One Who knows our hearts, then we do not even know our own hearts! One wonders if Solomon was already asking for forgiveness here
in advance of his own evil sin.

Perhaps he already knew of the sin he would eventually commit and the judgement he would face before this Holy and Righteous God.
