October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month… Except for Men

Men can be — and are — victims of domestic violence. Yet in the entire United States, there are over 2,000 shelters for women and only two dedicated to men.

The system meant to protect victims has a built-in gender bias, rooted in the long-discredited Duluth Model, which still trains police, prosecutors, and judges to see only one kind of victim.

This video explores the data, the history, and the human cost of ignoring half the victims — and makes the case for creating a Violence Against Men Act, to bring equality, empathy, and real protection to everyone who suffers abuse.
