The video is based on a short book written by Algis Uždavinys titled "Orpheus and The Roots of Platonism". I like the book a lot bcause it touches on many themes and values that I explore on this channel. Therefore, I had to make a video covering this work. Even though we cover all these themes in this video, I would still recommend you to read the original text. It's a quick read, it's short but really interesting.
Orpheus, though widely remembered as the tragic poet who charmed nature with his music, holds a deeper and more foundational place in ancient Greek religion and philosophy. Far beyond myth, he stands as the Theologian par excellence, a figure through whom divine wisdom, mystery, and initiation flow. His role forms a sacred bridge connecting the primal rituals of Greek mystery cults to the intellectual heights of Neoplatonism and Hermetic thought. Orpheus transmits an initiatory current that unites Egyptian esotericism, Pythagorean doctrine, and the Platonic vision of reality. Through Orphic tradition, philosophy is not seen as abstract speculation but as a transformative path—a "knowledge through madness"—leading to the soul’s purification and eventual union with the Divine. This lineage, flowing through Orphic hymns and mythic symbols, provided the spiritual foundation upon which Platonic philosophy was built. Orpheus, then, is not merely a poet or musician, but the root of a sacred science that shaped the very soul of Western metaphysics.
