Episode 41 – The Congress Amendments: 17 & 27

Congress has been called a lot of things: the people’s branch, the world’s greatest deliberative body… and occasionally, a dumpster fire in marble columns. But it hasn’t always worked the same way.

Sure the Founders gave us Congress, but did they trust Congress? I certainly don’t and neither should you. And honestly? For good reason. These guys could argue about anything, drag their feet on everything, and when nobody was looking, they’d happily give themselves a raise.

The 17th and 27th Amendments are proof of two things: Americans hate backroom deals, and we really, really hate politicians lining their own pockets.
