Velshi & Dems Say No Kings Protests Are About Loving America Then Ali Quotes WaPo’s Trump Lie Count

During his MSNBC fill-in for Lawrence O’Donnell, Ali Velshi opened a segment defending the so-called “No Kings” protests against Donald Trump — describing them as patriotic demonstrations rather than anti-American rallies.

Velshi first played a clip of Senator Bernie Sanders attacking Speaker Mike Johnson’s criticism of the rallies. In the clip, Sanders said:

“Speaker Johnson said this is a hate-America rally because people are coming out expressing their concerns about massive cuts to healthcare and the movement toward authoritarians — not a hate-America, it’s a love-America.”

Velshi then showed a clip of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who echoed that same defense:

“The notion that the ‘No Kings’ rallies is anything other than a patriotic act consistent with the First Amendment right to express yourselves and petition the government for a change in policy continues to reveal that Republicans are clueless as it relates to the Constitution of the United States of America — or they continue to lie for political reasons.”

Velshi followed with his own commentary, saying:

“I’m gonna take option B. Republicans are lying for political reasons because Donald Trump’s power depends on convincing Americans that dissent — that very specific thing upon which this country is based — is now suddenly a threat to the country itself. And the president of the United States who told 30,573 lies in his first term, according to The Washington Post, because it’s become a thing to actually track Donald Trump’s lies, is continuing to lie about Chicago, where our next guest, alderman Timmy Canootson, is holding a ‘No Kings’ rally in Chicago’s Oz Park, specifically geared toward families with young children. So you better watch out for those America hating babies on Saturday in Chicago.

Saturday’s protests are especially important in the Chicago area because Trump has been pushing aggressive immigration enforcement and putting American troops on the streets there.”

In other words: protesting Trump is “patriotic,” but enforcing immigration law is “authoritarian.”

Velshi’s own words made clear that Trump’s supposed “lie about Chicago” referred to sending federal troops to round up illegal immigrants. That’s MSNBC logic in a nutshell. Velshi, Sanders, and Jeffries all frame the No Kings rallies as love of country — while accusing Trump of lying for wanting to crack down on illegal immigration and restore order in cities like Chicago.

But these so-called “No Kings” rallies aren’t spontaneous acts of patriotism — they’re coordinated political demonstrations staged to make anti-Trump activism look like a national movement. And no matter how many people show up waving signs this weekend, history shows what usually follows Democrat-organized rallies: vandalized streets, burned flags, broken windows, and trash left behind.

The same people lecturing America about “unity” can’t even clean up after their own protests — and always seem to leave chaos wherever they go.

The real danger isn’t Trump or his supporters — it’s a media that romanticizes left-wing protests like Occupy Wall Street and No Kings while calling law enforcement “authoritarian.”

And then comes Velshi’s favorite talking point — The Washington Post’s “30,573 Trump lies” figure — as if that newspaper hasn’t spent decades misleading Americans itself. The same Post that kept a “lie counter” on Trump also:

• published and amplified the now-discredited Steele dossier as part of the Trump–Russia narrative.

• amplified claims that the Hunter Biden laptop was “Russian disinformation,” giving cover to Democrats and big-tech censorship before the election.

• downplayed the border crisis while running headlines claiming Republicans were exaggerating it for politics.

If Trump told 30,573 lies in four years, The Washington Post and MSNBC have told millions since their inception — all to protect Democrats.
