Bodycam video shows shooting involving Phoenix Police during robbery attempt

Phoenix, AZ - On Thursday, October 2, officers were called to a reported armed robbery attempt at a fast food restaurant near 16th Street and Buckeye Road.

Phoenix Police say two 911 calls were made regarding the robbery attempt, with one being from the manager of the restaurant.

The manager said the man was attempting to steal a bike from a woman and was “acting weird.”

In the call to dispatch, the caller said, “Leave the woman alone!”

A second 911 call came from a family member of an employee in the restaurant, who told dispatch that the man had a gun.

Dispatchers told responding officers that the man was threatening customers and employees inside and that they were unable to get out.

As officers arrived, they saw a man outside the restaurant who matched the description given and commanded him to get on the ground.

While initially following the commands of the officers, the man abruptly got to his feet and attempted to open the restaurant door.

As he attempted to open the door, the recording officer fired multiple times.

Phoenix Police say the man was unarmed and was later transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured in the shooting.
