Overview of the Entry/Exit System (EES)
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border management system implemented by the European Union starting October 12, 2025. It aims to monitor and record the entry and exit of non-EU nationals at the borders of the Schengen Area.

Key Features of the EES
Biometric Data Collection: Upon first entry, travelers will provide fingerprints and a facial photograph. This data will be stored for three years.
Automated Border Checks: The system will replace traditional passport stamping, allowing for quicker and more efficient border crossings.
Tracking Compliance: EES will help ensure that travelers do not exceed the 90-day stay limit within a 180-day period.
Countries Involved
The EES applies to 29 countries in the Schengen Area, including:

Austria
Belgium
France
Germany
Italy
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Exemptions from EES
The system does not apply to:

Citizens of EU member states and Schengen-associated countries.
Holders of residence permits or long-stay visas in EU countries.
