FLINT, Mich. (TV5 News)— New at six, a recently opened restaurant inside The Dort Mall is turning heads — and hearts — by making inclusivity its daily special.

810 Munchies, founded by owner **Steve Brewer**, offers a welcoming space where individuals with special needs are not only accepted but celebrated.

“It’s just a standard Coney Island menu,” Brewer said. “I run a lot of specials every week.”

But beyond the familiar comfort food, Brewer’s restaurant provides something rare — a **sensory-friendly dining experience**. With **low lighting, kid-friendly options**, and a policy of understanding rather than judgment, Brewer has created what he calls a *safe space for everyone.*

“No Karens allowed,” Brewer said with a laugh. “Kids are allowed to act how they’re gonna act — whether they stim, jump, or scream. If they wanna color on the windows or the chalkboard wall, that’s fine. Anything that makes their experience easier.”

The inspiration came from a painful moment. Brewer, whose two sons are **non-verbal and on the autism spectrum**, recalled a negative encounter while dining out.

“We started looking for special needs dining restaurants, and we couldn’t find them,” he said. “So we started this.”

Now, 810 Munchies serves not only **breakfast, lunch, and dinner**, but also compassion — offering menu favorites like macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, and fries, designed for comfort and familiarity.

“What sets us apart is that you’re allowed to be who you’re gonna be,” Brewer said. “You’re not gonna be judged for that. Our goal is to make sure everyone feels special — because everyone deserves that.”
