Do airplanes have turn signals?

Before a flight, every airplane makes its way from the gate to the runway. On one hand, nothing unusual, but on the other — even a small SSJ weighs about 40 tons!

To control such a "machine" during taxiing, pilots use two main tools. Here's how it works ⤵️

1. The tiller — the steering handle for the nose landing gear — this "handle" is located beside the pilot's seat and is used during parking and taxiing. With it, the pilot controls the nose gear. Need a sharp turn? Grab the tiller 🧑‍✈️

2. The pedals are trickier. While moving slowly, the pedals help precisely "follow the line," for example, along the center of the runway, and serve as an additional tool for differential braking during turns. During takeoff and landing, they control the rudder deflection on the vertical stabilizer ✈️

So next time you watch a plane smoothly taxiing to the parking spot, know that you are witnessing the pilots' precise work.

But airplanes do not have turn signals 😉
