Chris Barber Sentenced to 18 months House Arrest/Curfew!

On Tuesday October 7, Chris Barber and Tamara Lich were sentenced to 12 months house arrest and 6 months curfew for their leadership roles in the Freedom Convoy. Tamara received a few months reduction in curfew for her time (49 days) in jail. This capped off a multi-year ordeal, with over 50 days of trial, and multiple trips to and from Ottawa.

Chris Barber, as you know, is a Trucker and part-time farmer from Saskatchewan, and was one of the main leaders of the Freedom Convoy. He was initially arrested in 2022, and was charged with 7 criminal charges, he was acquitted on 5 charges, and was convicted on the remaining charges of Mischief and Disobeying a Court Order.

The Crown was asking for an outrageous 8 years in prison for Chris, which I've been told would be the longest jail sentence for mischief in Canadian history. Thankfully, the judge did not agree to this, and gave a lesser sentence, but many feel the 12 month house arrest and 6 months of curfew is heavy-handed for two protestors who did their best to work with police and keep it peaceful. I certainly think so.

Unfortunately, this legal saga is not over yet. There is still an ongoing attempt to try and confiscate and destroy Chris's truck "Big Red" as proceeds of crime, and it is also possible the government may appeal either the sentence or the acquittals on the 5 charges. Chris may also appeal his sentence.

Chris still needs your support to fight his ongoing legal challenges and pay for a possible appeal. I was told the latest hearing to defend the seizure of his truck cost around $50,000.
