Batman has proven to be DC Comics' most popular and profitable character in the past few decades. But why is that the case? At what point did the Caped Crusader surpass Superman as the company's most heavily promoted hero in adaptations? Batman has had numerous successes across all avenues of media. Movies like The Batman and The Dark Knight have generated massive box office revenue. Titles in the Arkham series, such as Batman: Arkham Knight and Arkham Asylum, have revolutionized superhero gaming. DC Animation frequently features Batman in a variety of projects centered on the Justice League or the Bat-Family itself. Batman's popularity has given DC enough incentive over the years to develop stories focused on his protégés, such as Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. It's only a matter of time before WB and DC Studios realize they’re sitting on a goldmine by not investing more in games, movies, or shows centered on Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and others. Perhaps, with the potential success of James Gunn's DCU, DC will once again find favor with casual audiences.
